Perched on the hillside overlooking Happy Valley, the French International School’s Jardine’s Lookout Campus has been a longstanding presence for more than three decades. Phase 1 of its renewal marks a refreshed outlook for the campus, celebrating the school’s 38th year of delivering professional education in Hong Kong through contemporary, adaptable learning environments.
The project comprised the renovation of Block E and a new dance studio, delivered within a tight programme and budget. Block E accommodates a mix of learning spaces, canteen facilities, and a rooftop playground, requiring a carefully balanced design response that prioritised functionality, efficiency, and long-term value. A clear and cost-effective design strategy was developed to support contemporary educational needs while maximising natural light and student comfort.
Learning spaces were refreshed using a simple, durable material palette, including vinyl flooring and laminated joinery, creating bright and welcoming interiors.
Services and cabling are discreetly concealed within acoustic ceiling panels and bulkheads, delivering a clean, modern aesthetic. Accent colours subtly reference the school’s identity, reinforcing a sense of belonging throughout the spaces.
The new library has been thoughtfully reimagined within an existing building, optimising natural light and enabling flexible configurations to support both group learning and independent study. Designed with primary school students in mind, the space features double-height ceilings and a central skylight, creating a bright, vibrant, and engaging atmosphere.
